Playing with FIRE – special screening on 14 August

There is a new documentary coming out about Financial Independence and Retire Early (FIRE) movement. It’s called Playing with FIRE. I’ve been hearing rave reviews about it from other financial bloggers overseas. It’s coming to Australia soon, and guess what? I’ll not only be attending, but I will also be speaking on a panel at the Sydney premiere on 14 August.

So, what is FIRE? It’s a movement where people aim to work, save and invest so that they can retire early and then do cool things like travel the world. It can be confronting to those stuck in our post-industrial revolution mindset. You know, we’re supposed to go to school, go to Uni, get a real job, buy a car, buy a house, have kids, spend a fortune on our kids, spend our lives working and paying off our mortgages, retire and then die.

Well, maybe that’s an over simplification. But there are still a lot of people threatened by the notion that, rather than aspiring to race up the corporate ladder, people might want to become financially resilient instead.

It’s disruptive thinking. Almost heretical in fact. Imagine having time to do things like travel, focus on your health and well-being, or explore your hobbies? Just watching this trailer I am already feeling inspired.

I am hoping to see many of you at the Sydney premiere. Following the screening there will be a Q&A session featuring Dave from Strong Money Australia, Pat from Life Long Shuffle, Miss Balance from All About Balance — and, of course, me! Tickets are already selling fast. You can purchase them here.

    1. Hi, the film should be released October/November. I don’t think there are any plans for another showing in Australia until then. You can contact Pearler to express your interest – they were the sponsors:)
