Racks of clothes

Joyfulgiving366 – Day 75 – Op shop giving

Today, I bundled up many of the clothes, books and jewellery leftover from my clothes swap on Day 71 and took them straight to my favourite op shop – Another Chance in Scullin (Canberra).

I attracted so much abundance at the last clothes swap. Some of the clothes were just beautiful. With love, I selected a few items (this time mainly jewellery), and then (again with love) I bundled up the rest. I happened to be in Scullin doing some work on our AirBnB, so I dropped by a large bag of things.

The trick with giving to op shops when you are minimalising is to give but not go in and buy. I had a lovely post-podcast chat with Sandie Parkes from The Green Shed, and she said that many of their customers drop things off, then come back in saying”I’ll just have a look”. They sometimes end up buying more than they donate. I laughingly responded that I was like that, and I guess many people are! But it is tempting to stop and keep things even though you know you don’t need them anymore.

On this occasion, I had to drop Neil back off to work so we didn’t have much time to dilly-dally. And that was probably a good thing.

P.S. If you are wondering why there isn’t any day 74, that’s because I didn’t do anything on the #joyfulgiving front. But I’ve still got things to give away yet …

  1. Book: What to expect when you are expecting
  2. 19 x clothes
  3. 8 x pieces of jewellery

Do you stop and browse for new things after you donate to an op shop or second-hand store?
