Giving more away, and steadily improving the giving away tally.
I sat down and contemplated: am I really going to be able to get to my goal of giving away 1,000 items? If so, how am I going to do it?
I came away with the a strong resounding answer of YES, I was going to be able to give away at least 1,000 items. And secondly, that it would start with one item at a time.
Stationery
That realisation sent me into a fever of activity. I literally went and found whatever I didn’t want and started listing on the Buy Nothing Group, including a pink stapler and a hole punch.
I picked up a bag of stationary from someone on my Buy Nothing Project around this time last year. I decided last year to make up my own book packs for the kids, and I figured I would use some stuff in that. I did indeed use a few things, but overall I had much more than I needed. I keep ‘meaning’ to give several things away but in the meantime they were just clutter.
I have a bit of a thing for staplers – long story. A year ago I got really upset because I thought hubby had lost my favourite stapler. Of course he hadn’t – it turned up. Funny how things like that are always someone else’s fault!
I was so surprised that someone put their hand up – and claimed – both the stapler and the hole punch within a day. It just goes to show that you never know what someone needs.
Repeat visitor
I also gave away three folders to a lovely Japanese lady on my Buy Nothing group.
Actually, I was a bit embarrassed as I forgot to put them out and she was waiting for them. To make matters worse, I was on a Zoom call and didn’t see her message. She was kind enough to come back that afternoon. I added to the items two kids books and a few little things toys (spinning tops etc) that her daughter might like to play with.
Paisley dreams – update
My friend Michele gave me an update on the paisley bedspread.
Wow, doesn’t that look amazing? She loves all things Indian and I’m so glad this has found a new home with her.
